Snow Day!

Well, today is officially a snow day.  A lovely snow storm swooped in yesterday afternoon and left us with about 8" of snow on the ground.  "Thundersnow" was what they called it because there was lightning and thunder at the same time as the snow.  It was pretty cool!

This morning I took Noa out for her morning walk.  The wet, heavy snow caused a lot of our trees and tree branches to relocate themselves, so we had to pave a new trail through the woods in the back.  Fun times with the boogie.

Aaron and I have been stuck inside for the past couple of days as we battle simultaneous sinus infections, so we decided that we would get outside for a little fun and fresh air.

So we built a snowman.
And then played dress-up with him...er...her.

The Floridian snow-woman!
(Aaron confessed that this snowman is about as white as he would be in a bathing suit right now.)

And the SEMINOLE snowman!

Doing the warchant, of course.  I think our neighbors on the balcony nearby mighta thought we were a little crazy by now.  Probably just jealous gator fans.

And that was our time playing in the snow!  The rest of our time was spent outside shoveling out our cars.  Not all that exciting (although we do have a snow shovel this year to replace our baking sheet!), so you will note the lack of photos.  Thank goodness for neighbor Mike who likes to play with his four-wheeler and snow-plow attachment on days like these.  Took us about 1/3 the time.

Afterwards, we made our traditional walk to Fairfax Corner for a hearty lunch (this time at Uncle Julios!) after some hard work.  We do this because once we shovel our cars we feel extremely possessive of our parking spots and can't bear the thought of leaving them :) :)

That's all from us.  Hope you're staying warm.  We can't wait for a balmy 40 degree day to grace us with its presence.

And to the kids who knocked our snowman down before we returned from lunch:  I hope you sled through my dog's poop.

Over & Out.

State of the Union

Well, it is a true story that Aaron and I have not had anything too exciting to blog about lately.  Here's the latest and greatest:

Aaron just recently returned from several business trips (one to Omaha, Nebraska and the other to Barcelona, Spain).  I was not envious of the former (because it was a whopping - 4 degrees!!), but the latter sure made me jealous!  School started back up a little too soon for me to join him, so since the start of the new year I've been studying like crazy for my upcoming comprehensive exams.  Which is why the blog posts will be few and far between (unless procrastination gets the best of me).

Tonight, our brains had had enough so we gave ourselves over to watching President Obama's State of the Union address.  It's a must-do as Americans, especially as residents of the DC Metro area!

But, you know, we Wilsons like to keep it interesting and provide our own (slightly sassy) commentary throughout.   And to make it even better, others even joined in via text message.  God bless DVR for allowing us to freeze-frame our TV's in order to get some excellent pictures!  Here's a little peak at how the commentary went:

Me: "Pretty good not to have Nancy Pe-lousy up there!"  (It's true, I can't deny the happiness I feel.  Although she was definitely better at smiling than John Boehner.)

Dad: [via picture text] "Just so you don't get too comfortable."

Me: [via picture text] Rubio knows the best way to get through this.  He's starting early on making big change like the rest of 'em!  And can you handle Bill Nelson's creeper facial expression?

Dad: [also via picture text, obvi] "Sticky note on the TV to cover up Biden."

Me: After camera pans to an unknown figure...Who is the CEO of Corning, Inc.  and why does he get to be there?  Why can't I go?  'Laura Wilson, GW Graduate Student spending lots of money on higher education'  <-- that would be my title on the TV monitor when they pan over to me, of course."

Aaron: "Fat chance" (or something of that nature).

And then what. do. you. know.

WHO IS DIEGO and why does he get to go!?  Where is S Mountain Comm College?  I'm from right up the road!  Cheaper travel to pay for, I'm sure ($4.80 via metro to be exact, Mr. President.)

Oh, and as if I wasn't having enough fun: then Amanda chimed in [via text message]:  "Ohhhhhh bama!" she says.  "What a pep talk!  You can do ANYTHING in America!  Come on everyone!"

Have I mentioned I love the company I keep.  We're really patriotic, I promise.

Here's proof:

Miss America Pageant 2009 celebration/reenactment.

And, patriotism on a more serious level.  :)

That is all for now.  I hope I was able to make you smile.  And if I just made you mad because of my sarcasm, sorry.  I hope we can still be friends :)

Happy New Year!

Hello all!  It's that time again.  I've redesigned our blog.  Mostly because it's the new year and I was in the mood to make a change... and I like my hair the way it is.  Oh, and I'm attempting to study for my comprehensive exams.  Best time to redesign the blog.  Always.

Anywho,  for New Years Eve this year, Aaron and I met up with some friends in downtown DC to watch the 'Noles ring in the new year in style with a 26-17 win over South Carolina in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.  Here we are parkin' it at our table at Old Dominion Brewhouse for a few hours.
Aaron ordered a lovely "manly" beverage to celebrate the New Year.  Pinkie up, dahling!
FSU Buddies Katie and David!
At halftime, we played a little Skee Ball.  Everyone's action shot to follow....
The only REAL action shot, the rest were posed.

After the win, Aaron and I made our way home via metro.  Where we were when the clock struck midnight.  How romantic.
And then the next day we took down our Christmas decorations and did a little errand-running and grocery shopping.  Later in the evening, we met back up with Katie and David and Paul and Christina to go to Good Stuff Eatery.  Only to find out it was closed.

But never fear, we ate some yummy pizza at matchbox instead and Paul made it up to us by making Paul-Brownies.  My FAVORITE!

How could I not take a picture of this experience?!
Me with my creeper "I heart Paul-Brownies" smile.
We played a little Settlers of Catan with Aaron's new expansion pack.  And by "a little" I mean it took forev.
And - that - ladies and gentlemen, was our New Years Celebration!  Now we are workin' on gettin' back into the swing of things with work and school.  ONE MORE SEMESTER!  I'm doin' a little dance to Praise the Lord!! :)

Over & Out.
