My life is pretty adverage right now

Well, in my quest to become an awesome pediatric diagnostician, I bought a resource book on language sampling from an independent seller on Amazon who described the condition of the book as "like new". Well, a few dog-eared pages, lots of writing, sticky notes, and a detached back cover later, I've got my "like new" book.

I was super annoyed until I saw some of the writing in this book and then it all made sense.  The word "mean" was underlined in pencil in the text of the book. And next to it, the word "adverage" was written.

A few thoughts on this:  1) Anyone who has to remind themselves that mean is another word for average should not be sampling someone else's speech and language; 2) A person who spells the word average "a-d-v-e-r-a-g-e", should REALLY not be sampling someone else's speech and language.

That is all from me.  Pretty much anything is is providing comic relief right now.  More exciting things to come...promise!  Just gotta get through these last few days of my FIRST YEAR of graduate school.

Cheerio.

What is my life coming to? I'm blogging about chicken wings....

So this morning at 10am, I had a craving for hot wings and beer.  Sounds gross, yes, but it came in handy when this craving was still around at dinner time, so Aaron and I headed to the Buffalo Wing Factory for dinner.  (I'm pretty sure he has dreams about me saying, "Hey babe, I'm craving wings and beer, you down?" so it didn't take too much convincing to get him to go.)

We were in luck because Thursday nights are all-you-can eat wings, which made us able to try about a zillion different flavors.  All 3 of the new flavors I tried were my favorites: peppercorn & parmesean, "eastern shore" (garlic butter with old bay seasoning), and carribbean...yum!

Pepporcorn parmesean wings (only 2 left)...Yum-O!

We were out of luck because the A/C of the Wing Factory was out-of-commission...

Reasons why it was a bad idea to stay:
1) not a good thing when you're fixin' to work up a sweat on some hot wings (no shame here)
2) all-you-can eat night also translates into being the night when this place is PACKED with people
3) it was already 95 degrees outside...and hotter in the building

Reasons why it was an excellent idea to stay:
1) They passed out free popsicles!!  (a fun end to our impromptu date night)

That's all from me.  If you could care less about hot wings and popsicles being a part of my life...that's cool, because many more exciting things are to come, considering the fact that school is out in t-minus 6 school days, and I can't even wait for the break!  On the agenda is a trip to NYC with Aaron, my sisters visit to DC, and visiting Jilly (my college roomie) in North Carolina.  Holla!

Hubby thinks I'm doing homework right now...

So I may as well write a nice blog post about him.  Aaron is the greatest!  After a long day of school, I walked in the house, went straight for the brownies and almost didn't notice THESE sitting in my pretty Kate Spade vase on the table:

I capital "L", capital "O", capital "V" & capital "E" LOVE Gerber daisies!  They're my favorite!   My beautiful flowers were a welcomed surprise after a long day...and he was sweet to look ahead at the tough next two weeks I will likely have.  So much so that he informed me that he got one flower for each of the big assignments I have due in the next two weeks.  Thanks for the thoughtful reminder.  Not.

PS--This post would have also contained a rockstar picture I almost took of Kristen during the rediculous storm that we walked to the metro in (she was fording the river that was once 23rd street in her "only clinic sandals", with a slightly useless umbrella in hand...picturesque, I tell you!)  BUT  the rain got to my Blackberry before I could take it (and not to mention, I had to get across the street myself), but I had to share the moment anyway.  Missed photo ops are the worst.

Time to tell Aaron I'm done with my homework.  ;)

Bananas!

After the scorching week we've had, it is a lovely, rainy, sorta gloomy saturday in NoVa.  It scrubbed my weekly "Saturday tradition" of laying out at the pool, but this kind of day was just what we needed!  After a morning of sleeping in and catching up on some work, Aaron & I ran a few errands.  First we went to Office Depot to reload on supplies...with a rewards giftcard...then we went to Starbucks...with our free-drink coupon...then we went hit up the new Walgreens on the corner to pick up a perscription...couponless.

However, in keeping with the other frugal-shopping stops on our journey, the lady at the cashier handed us a $25 gift card just for filling perscriptions at their new store...an unexpected surprise!  So we did what any other impulsive shoppers would do and we bought the Bananagrams game that we had previously talked ourselves out of as we passed it on an earlier aisle.  When we left Walgreens, we went home to have some rainy day fun!

A picture of our new game!  Quite challenging for only two players...
Oh, and if there are any skeptics out there on my skills, please click here or here or here for verification :)

Just wanted to keep our readers posted on the fun times at the Wilson house.  If any of you Stuart folks see the Walgreens family around town, tell them I say thank you :) :) !  Ta Ta, now, it's time to SPLIT...

Sunny with a high of....102!?!?

What?!?  I thought I moved north.  I did, didn't I?  Because above you'll see DC's forecast...and below...my hometown's...

The outlook for today's weather is OVER 100 DEGREES!  And in true DC/MD/VA-resident form, we will freak out about any unusual weather pattern (remember "snowmaggedon"?)

Last year when folks around here complained of heat and humidity, I laughed in their faces.  During the mid-day the checkout guy at Wegman's asked, "Oh, is it still really hot and humid out there??" ..."No?", I said, confused.  But not today, because you bet your sweet bippy it's HOT!

I mean heat and humidity were my middle name(s) when I lived in Florida.  I guess the difference is that now that it's hot up here...everyone is talking about it.  Floridians stop talking about it around Valentine's Day.

So fortunately, I am prepared like a good Florida native (or anyone else who doesn't want to sweat it all day long).  A tank top, shorts, flip-flops, a big bottle of water, I'm ready, right?  Wrong!  I forgot my sweater!  Because indoors (everywhere) Washingtonians are SIMULATING WINTER with their air conditioners to (over)compensate for the heat.  So bouncing back and forth between inside and out is the name of the game to maintain normal body temperature.  My routine: cool off/thaw/cool off/thaw...you get the idea.  Fortunately our house is a comfortable 75 degrees, so it's sunny with a high of 75 for Aaron & I.

Stay cool, today, kids,  its gonna be a scorcher.  But don't forget your sweater ;)

Happy 234th, America!

Things I love about the 4th of July:

1) FOOD.  I mean, nothing says America like a cheeseburger, a hot dog, some ribs, potato salad, potato chips, fruit salad, a beer and a festive dessert like the one I made...

2) FRIENDS.  You can't have food sans friends.  Someone has to help bring the food!  And eat the food with you!  And let's face it, nothin is better than a "backyard" [note: none of us have a real yard yet...someday] barbeque with your closest buds on a hot summer day.  And for our VA friends, the warm summer weather is well-deserved, I'd say.

3) FIREWORKS!  After grilling out at the Case's, we went with Paul and Christina (the newlywed Needhams, holla!) to the city to watch the DC fireworks display with another 500,000+ people who had the same idea as us.  But you know what?  We had a blast!  Here we are:

Team red & white (just noticed this)

Team blue & white :)

We hit the jackpot with a street vendor selling Domino's pizza for 10 bucks.  We bought a box, some sodas, and found a shady patch of grass on the Ellipse and waited for the sun to go down.  And when it did, this is what we got (or what my camera got, at least).  The show was awesome this year!

4) A DARN GOOD TIME!  After the fireworks, those 500,000+ people I mentioned previously proceeded to head to the closest metro station (our means of transportation home, as well).  So we walked up to Chinatown to visit Red Velvet cupcakery...and made it just in time to get some of the last cupcakes before closing time!  When that satisfied us...we headed back to the metro to head home, only to find that people were STILL lined up outside of Federal Triangle.  Passing on that experience, we extended the night some more by hitting up Harry's bar in downtown...which is not to be confused with the delish-o Harry's that we love love love in Tallahassee...but it did the job!  We were having so much fun passing the time that we passed a little too much time, making us barely make the last metro train back home.  Whoops!  We made it home by the 5th of July, savoring the memories of the day.  Happy Birthday USA! :)

Oh, and the last thing I love about the 4th...

5) MY BLUE STAR SUNGLASSES, duh!  My favorite white elephant gift of all time...thanks Aaron Little!
